Announcing the 2025 Annual Outsound New Music Summit
July 25 - 27 at the Berkeley Finnish Hall

Berkeley, California; Outsound Presents announces its lineup for the 2025 Annual Outsound New Music Summit taking place from July 25-27, at the Berkeley Finnish Hall located at 1970 Chestnut Street in Berkeley California. Advance tickets are now on sale at Eventbrite, and is co-presented by Bay Area radio station KFJC 89.7FM.

This year the festival kicks off on Friday July 25 with a night of sonic exploration from pianist/composer Motoko Honda followed by the debut meeting of vocalist Fumi Okiji with drummer Marshall Trammell's Music Research Strategies, and closing with improviser story teller Ric Louchard and his all star ensemble. On Saturday July 26th Outsound is excited to present four generations of California Art Rock featuring Gumby's Junk, Ologist, Lunar Mistake, and Tri-Cornered Tent Show seamlessly tied together by experimental chaos magic synth explorer Modesty! On the closing night Sunday July 27th Outsound will feature an opening set by trumpet player composer film maker Ari Micich who explores new contexts for the trumpet, through the combination of organic sounds, melody, harmony and visual storytelling. Closing this year's Summit program will see the return of former Bay Area resident multi-instrumentalist, singer, dancer, martial artist, and spiritual practitioner Bob Marsh along side filmmaker/improviser David Michalak presenting a World Premiere of The Secret Opera a 12 minute film about Grum, an opera singer played by Bob Marsh searching for the key to love & art in spite of aphonia, inner demons and a ghost that has been haunting and dooming performances in the decaying Opera House. An Expressionistic, Felliniesque, rear window view of opening night jitters. Filmed in part in the once glorious Stone Opera in Binghamton, N.Y. built in 1890 and in San Francisco.

About the Outsound New Music Summit
Since 2002, the Outsound New Music Summit, presented by Outsound Presents, has been held every July showcasing a broad range of local and national artists, world premieres and first-time collaborations. The Summit features everything from free improvisation to microtonal composition to experimental electronics to harsh noise, covering the broadest range of musical exploration and sonic creativity.
The mission of Outsound Presents is to raise public awareness of music not usually supported by the mainstream. Our events and projects focus on the creation of experimental music, avant-garde and original composition, found sound, free improvisation, free jazz, creative music, noise, musique concrète, minimalism, invented instruments, genre-bending music, and sculptural/textural sound Outsound events also include film, dance, and intermedia works.

Outsound’s Board of Directors is drawn from the Bay Area music community. It runs on the tireless professional efforts of this all-volunteer board, who are involved in all aspects of administration, fundraising, curating, and presenting our concerts and projects. In addition to the Outsound New Music Summit, Outsound hosts two year-round concert series. www.outsound.org
