2014: Teddy Rankin-Parker & Daniel Pearce
Teddy Rankin-Parker: cello
Daniel Pearce: drums
Investigating the various cross-pollinations of interdisciplinary ideas, the Rankin-Parker/Pearce Duo is based upon a joint commitment to collaborating with artists, musicians, and composers. We work with artists of different media to influence the type of non-linear, improvisation-based composition that our duo pursues. This year, at the 13th Annual New Music Summit, will be premiering a program of new works by renowned composer Renee Baker. These pieces have been commissioned by RPPD specifically for the Outsound Summit. Dealing primarily with an investigation of dissipative structures, Ms. Baker’s compositions use a wide range of graphics and cued micro-improvisations as a means to denote the various developmental stages of our planet’s evolution. Focusing most comprehensively on the Noosphere and its implications for the evolution and interaction of human minds, this music also intends to deepen the dialogue about the connection to the Earth that all of us share.
Teddy Rankin-Parker is a cello player and graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Rankin-Parker has performed, toured, and/or recorded with dozens of artists, including the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), Iron & Wine, Glen Hansard, Birthmark, OosImaginary Art Collective, AACM, Chicago Folks Operetta, Opera Cabal, Renee’ Bakers Mantra Blue Free Orchestra, and Henry Grimes.
Daniel Pearce is a drummer and writer based in San Francisco.
